Looking at the cat delet from pure diesel...how much of a pain to install? Also is there any cutting required or is it all just unbolt and go......anyone see any gains in mileage with this? Deleted the muffler and was expecting a better sound and performance....didnt happen...sounds lame...need to kill the cat!
Still have the factory exaust. Went to a shop in the next town over. First time that I have been there, They cut the muffler and cat out as one piece and then welded in a whole new piece of "31/2 stainless pipe. 318 all said and done.
Many shops will not remove the cat because it is actually against the law.
Once it is gone is yet another matter. I have never seen the cat police at my
front door. I got mine cut out in a rural town in Missouri. The old guy said and I quote "what the hell; they puttin them there converters on diesels ?" and in the next few minutes it was in the back of my truck. Be absolutely sure you keep your converter. They are GOLD MINES for some and may be necessary to sell your truck at a latter time. By the way, My 2003 diesel was awesum sounding when I straight piped it. Now days, I need a little less noise. I put on a very special muffler that accelerates the exhaust and actaully creates a partial vacuum in the exhuast pipe directly in front of it.

Rimshoes - can you give us some more information on the "special" muffler? Sounds interesting.
yes. cat delete is very easy to put in. when i did mine, i took out the cat first then all the pipes all the way to the muffler, cut that out and then put all the pieces back together to fit in.
the muffler delete pipe is a joke though. it's too short, should have a hanger on it to hang where the rear of the muffler used to. and the flange on the rear doesn't even help you make a good fit to the front oft he tail pipe. you gotta weld that part. mines holding now but i gotta get it welded soon. hope to have a new system by the end of summer.
Got mine from pure diesel performance. The local muffler shop did mine. I wanted to keep the hanger that is on the cat so they cut it and welded it to the delete pipe. Sounds great.
i'm still worried about getting caught without it. my buddy with a duramax said his truck never came with one, he did a turbo back system on his and it sounds awesome, no hiss sound at all. just a high flow muffler. forget what system he went with but it sounds great at idle.
i run a business and it's not worth the risk to have the cat off if it needs to be there by law. i know it doesn't need it but theywon't care when they hand you a hefty fine.

altering the exhaust at all is against the law. from downpipe to the factory tip. Thats how it is here in CA at least. It's the same ticket for an aftermarket 5" tip as it is for not having your cat. Unless your truck has to go through some sort of inspection I would say GO FOR IT. you only live once man.
