I have been able to use the wiring harness without any previous problems, this is a new thing. I do have power to my truck's tail lights, which work fine.
Check the power distribution box. {the black box on the driver's side under the hood}. There is fuses for trailer lighting there.
Owner's manual will tell you the specific fuses for the lights. The fuse will usually blow from a short on the trailer, even if the trailer lights seemed ok. The truck lighting is not fused from the same fuses and is not affected.
On my 05 it is fuse #9 {20A} for trailer turn signals and running lamps and fuse # 20 {10A} for back up lights and by pass. If it is not the fuses the check relays #201 and #202.
Repair and then check the truck side power with a plug in tester or voltmeter before you hook the trailer back up. Then look for signs of short on the trailer so you don't just "reblow" the fuse. {is that a word? }
