okay i have a 93 ford explorer and with the heat off i get heat out the vents, and it on cold. and i dont have that great of heat in the winter and i got anti freeze smell inside what can this be?
Anti-freeze smell inside the truck pretty much means your heater core is leaking. Fairly easy to replace and an inexpensive fix.
If you take a look at the firewall, passenger side, you will see two hoses going into the truck. On those two hoses is a valve which regulates whether you get anti-freeze flowing into the heater core or not. Since it sounds like you will be replacing the heater core, you might as well replace that valve at the same time. That should cure the heat all the time in your truck.
You should also replace the thermostat at the same time. That should fix your lack of heat in the winter. Replace with a 195 - 197 degree thermostat. Make sure you get a gasket with it as sometimes the new thermostat doesn't come with one.
