I got my isspro tranny temp guage in the mail a few days ago.
I opened the box to look it over, there wasn't any instructions and I have a question that I'm sure you guys can answer.
About 2 feet from the sensor is a white box with tape around it and wires into the side of it. Also appears that this needs a + and - wire hooked to it. So, can this mount under the truck? It doens't look like there is enough wire between this box and the sensor for the little box to be mounted somewhere like on the firewall??
Well...I have a couple of thoughts on this. First of all, I have not installed any guages yet. With that being said up front, here's what I think.
If the box is watertight AND you use heat-shrink or solder and some other type of waterproofing, you can probably mount it under the truck.
OR
solder lengths of additonal wire onto the existing wires and you can mount the box any place you want.
I prefer soldering and heat-shrink to cover the soldered areas, put the wires into a wire loom (or whatever they call that black plastic tubing) and secure the loom so it isn't flying all over the place while driving.
I just finished reading the write-up at the link provided by ROENTGEEP. That is a FANTASTIC write-up. The pictures are excellent. The install was on a 2002, but I bookmarked it anyway.
You can never have too many information resources. The install looks BETTER than factory-installed.
Riata_ag,
I thought the same thing when I got my isspro gauges. I knew the box needed to be in the cab (mine came with instructions and said so) but the wires to the sensor looked way too short. They aren't. Just peel the carpet down from under the pedals and over from the door and you'll see the plug. There's enough wire for the box to fit up behind the pedals and still reach the tranny. Instructions are here, just look up the part number for your gauge. More writeups here.
sorry man I had to go to work . I don't get to forums till late at night. I remove the driver side kick panel and the black thing that holds the carpet by the door . then I pulled carpet and the rubber is in the middle of floor pan and then I put a hole in rubber and ran wires to trans.
