302 Motor help

Can anyone help me find out what year my motor block is. The only number I can find was on the back of the block DY655578

Any particular reason for needing the year?

I can't think of a reason the year would affect parts other than EFI vs carb.

1970 according to the "D", but none of the other numbers line up to anything that I know of...

Can you find any casting numbers on the block or on the cylinder heads?

After '64 they started using a metal tag to ID an engine. But these tags are easily lost. If it was built after 1970, Ford stamped the VIN number on the left rear side of the block just below the cylinder head. From 1960-81, the 5th digit of the VIN designates the engine code. Is this the number that you found?

I don't think so. my mechanic is in the process of tearing down the motor now so we will hopefully find some more numbers soon. thanks alot for your time JPW
