Aerostar offroad project

I got a 89 Aerostar in the driveway, and was wondering what i should do with it. Im thinking somehow that i can make it offroad. It would be fun to do and i get tired of washing my new truck so i figured this would be the best thing to do. I was thinking Big mud tires, mabey a lift and a huge winch. Can you even get a lift? I dont think ou can unless you get it costom. I have even thought about cutting the back to out and making it look like a truck. oviously i have no clue what im going to do with it so i came to yall. Any thought or ideas would be great.

The Aerostar chassis is not all that strong, so it probably won't stand up to the harsh pounding of off-road travel. Similarly, its bumpers really aren't strong enough to support a winch. The custom work you will have to do will include reinforcement of the chassis, as well as custom fabbing any kind of suspension lift. Then you need to deal with the powertrain...

Why not just keep it a utility vehicle? It's great at carrying people or stuff.

Goog Idea! Your project is the 3rd. 1st is done by my friend, the second is in progress (RuleBracker's project). XLT4WD90 is right. Aero needs some body modification. But it is not so difficult if you have welding machine, cutter and a lot of enthusiasm.

People are putting 4WD chassis under anything and everything these days. I would add $$$ in addition to what Pablo says.

Good luck

I seen a Aero in Portland Or once that had a F250 4wd under the body, it had Alaska Plates on. It looked used and tuff, but it was a long way from home.

the easiest tough 4 wdr Aero conversion would be to drop an Aero body on a rollover late model 4L OHC 4wdr Ranger frame that has been custom extended

Toyota 4wdr V6 PU frame from rollover would work also and much more reliable engine/tranny

There is no Toyota frame under his aero. He has his body enforsed with metal bars, Mercedes engine, mercedes tranny, toyta T-case (manually controlled), UAZ wide axes.

What a reason to move engine back? A lot of work.

Last winter there was a big box with sand and shovel inside. For better weight bistribution....

idk thats what i was asking because i dont want to spend a year on this. All of the dune buggys that i have seen have the engine in the back. The only think is i dont have sand dunes in alabama, just woods and mud, I think they call it a offroad buggy or smg like that. It was just a thought tho, still open for any suggestions
