This is my first post, and thanks in advance for your participation. I have a 2000 7.3, 4WD, auto, K&N cold air intake, and older style 75hp superchip. It started great and ran for about a mile and stalled. I let it get a little lower on fuel than I normally do (my brain fart). It acted like a CPS, so I replaced that and a new fuel filter(it was pretty grody). It started great, ran for about a mile and stalled again. Now it will start, but runs rough with no power. Any ideas??
How much fuel in it now? Sounds like a fuel problem. Any other mods besides the older chip and have you changed anything lately?
Also, be sure to check the harnesses at the valve covers. Just give them a push pull check first and see if that helps. We can get deeper later if needed.
Thanks for all the replies. Oil level is OK, wiring checked. I let it get so low that my initial response was that I was out of fuel, it has the 2.5 gals I put in before I had it towed. Nothing has changed, no recent mods. I just started it and got a bit of blue/gray smoke and rough idle. There has been some loud knocking, intermittently.
You think I just picked up crud from the bottom of the tank? I will give it a try, thanks.
Maybe, but 2-3 gallons across the bottom of the tank does not equate to a whole lot in terms of fuel level at the pickup. I would put in a lot more to make sure you eliminate a pickup foot problem.
I agree with Tenn, A couple of gallons in the bottom is not real deep when compared to the height of the pickup foot. Loud knocking can be air in the fuel it will make the injectors sound like hammers
That did the trick, first rule of mechanics...check the simple stuff first. I idled it for 10 minutes with 10 gal in it and then ran it to the station. Thanks for your help!!!
