Newbie Questions

I am a proud new owner of an 1978 F100, 302/Auto. I have a few questions to start me out.
1. Is there a good place to find a better dash cluster, maybe with a newer gauge style or something?
2. Is there a place that makes a sub box that will sit under the seat or is a slimmer unit. The one I have now is a 10" deep box and I'm a big boy and could use te extra space.
3. Are there any performance upgrades anyone can recommend and still keep me smog legal(fed).
Thanks
Ty

Welcome to the site.

Please the Read first thread at the top of this forum to acquaint yourself with great info.

Instrument clusters can be custom made as it is done all the time
Even some FTE sponsor sites have them.

Sub box under the seat ?
Don't think so..not enough room

Engine specific questions should be asked in the engine forum that applies to your engine.
FTE also has a performance/re-building forum.

The 302 in your truck is stock...about 110 HP at most.

Just Go back to the main forum page and scroll down to the engine forums then post your engine performance question in one of those

You can do a search on here about the gauge cluster as I have seen some in here recently post their updated clusters and where they got them.

As for the box, I haven't seen any pre-built boxes. I would suggest you get the interior Dyno-matted and have the box custom built so it will look and fit better.
There are a world of performance upgrades out there. Look at a better intake (I am using an Edelbrock 289 with a Holley 600 carb on my '74 302) and carb. Its an easy way to make horsepower.
I also used Flowtech headers, 2 1/4" duals into 3 chamber Flowmasters. If you need cats to keep it legal (depending on where you live) get some high flow cats from a 91 or newer Mustang GT.
Remember, the easiest way to increase power is to help it breathe in and out.
