box below the battery?

I have an 89 bronco eddie bower edition. It has the 302, my question is what is the box that is right below the battery tray. I noticed that my serpintine belt has shreaded and has broke the tube connecting the line. The box has a line that goes into the intake, then from there it goes to the box, then from the box it goes to somewhere else through a tube on the frame. Could anyone tell me what it is and what it does.

Charcoal cannister help keep the air cleaner for all of us. Fuel tank vapors go into the charcaol rather than the air we all share. The computer opens the charcoal cannister selenoid valve when the time is right and adds the vapors to the fuel mixture to purge the charcoal cannister.
