So I just bought a 2001 F250 with an automatic transmission. Got it for super cheap so the problem is that the transmission will work in reverse, but will not work in drive, 2 or 1.
So simply put what are some ideas on what is toast. Truck has about 210k on it.
Anyone rebuild these transmissions on their own? I've been thinking of trying to do one, but I don't know.
Check the line pressure. Reverse usually sets the pressure to over 200,
with little or no electronic control. Forward gears use electronically controlled
line pressure, from under 100 psi to over 200, depending on throttle
opening. The TPS has to be working, so check this first.
If the internal pressure controls aren't working, or there's a big leak in
the forward circuits, forward gears may not engage. It could be something
as simple as a stuck pressure regualtor in the valve body, to a blown
internal seal that will require a full teardown. The pump could be hosed.
The service manual or the tranny manual should give you the proper
pressure ranges. And the place to attach your 300 psi gauge.
I just ordered an obdII code reader and a number of things for the rebuild of the transmission. I am getting a manual with the parts, so I'll look and see what it says. The check engine light is on, so maybe that is something to do with it. The truck has about 210k on it, and a number of them are miles at the mine out here, so I'm thinking something is worn out.
SO I got my code reader and I got the code 0720 OSS malfunction. So I wonder how that relates to it not moving? Any ideas? Got my rebuild kit today. Sooo just need to get some of the fancy tools.
