Help ...tranny,TC,or both??????
Need help. I was driving my 01 S.D. 7.3 home tonight. Made a right hand turn and felt a shift. Went to accelerate and started hearing a ticking noise. Made to my driveway. Started checking everything. Looks ok . Went out on a short trip .Truck bogged down like it started pulling something , then a shift and took off. started getting a slapping feel from under truck. . I then slowed down . Took off again and same thing happened again.
What could this be. I havent had transmission problems before. So this freaked me out.
Any help would be appreciated

Can you feel the Torque Converter lock up in between 3rd & OD?
What do you tranny temps look like?
Does to OD light start flashing when you have problems?
Ford did have the Diode tranny made during certain months of 2001 that did have it's set of issues. Hey all you FTE guru's - anyone got the link to the dreaded diode tranny so he can check his out?

tranny temp, no temp gauge.
when I go to accelerate. goes fine then its like im pushing a load ,then its brakes loose, and then I hear a ticking sound ,and or a slapping sound from the bottom of the truck
did not notice OD light flashing

Ford made the diode tranny the first 1/2 of 2001, but most problems seem to be with the 1-2 shift.

I had already sent a PM to casey , but no reply yet. I did a serch , and someone else refered him for advice.
The other thing I noticed was. When I felt like I was pushing a load . I would let off the accelerator and it would go to the right. Without touching the brakes.

Basically it feels like another shift. While driving normally (not romping on it) you will feel the TC lock up around 40 mph. Starting from a stop, the 4R100 shifts like this:

Hmm, my truck when it used to shift from 3rd to 4th, it would all of a sudden feel like i was pushing something really hard, the motor would start to bog down R's and the trans temp went all the way to the right on my gauge, the 4th gear packs got welded together and got stuck on the side of the case causing nothing to move. Sounds like a trans problem.
