Yeah it's OLD info. But there were 6 trucks that are what the bronco SHOULD be. I have no clue as to thier wearabouts or condition now (I believe they have to be destroyed after testing ect is done).
I only saw two, and they went out West to customer clinics. They were well received, but the current fuel prices have cut many programs down. The vehicles may have been scrapped, or they could be mothballed until the economy picks up. I am willing to bet that they are now crushed.

"Ford IS going to get rid of the current Explorer Sport (2 door 4x4 based on the ranger chasis) and bring back the "Bronco" in it's place. Too bad it will be the SAME f'n truck. Just like the Bronco II it will be on the ranger chasis... and sadly it will look exactly like the Explorer sport."
If this is in fact true, Ford could definitely soften the blow considerably by treating the Explorer Sport (/Bronco?) to the new FX4 Off-Road Package that is coming out on the 2002 Ranger...31x10.5 BFG AT KO's on 15-inch Alcoa forged aluminum rims, Torsen limited-slip rear diff with 4.10 axle ratio, Bilstein shocks, heavier-duty skid plates, tow hooks front and rear, manual tranny and...get this...MANUAL TRANSFER CASE! All in all, not bad considering what Ford's been putting out the last several years as far as light trucks goes. No doubt it would give the Explorer Sport the shot of testosterone it sorely needs, and make it at least a little more worthy of the Bronco name if they do re-badge it.
Whether Ford chooses to build the new Bronco based on a Expedition platform,or an Excursion platform, let's just hope they choose to build a new Bronco. If not, I'm content to buy, restore, and drive '87-'96 Broncos(and put a few EFI460s into 'em...).And if they do build a new one based on an Excursion,it damn well better have the big V-10 as an option!
the excursion based 2door truck is NOT going to be called the bronco. Though it's much better deserving of the name than the exploder sport. Ford is delaying the release of it till who the hell knows when due to an unstable economy and HIGH gas prices (not going to sell too many gas guzzlers when cheap gas is $1.50 a gallon in ford's home town). but from what I've seen of the truck in person, and talking to someone who is involved in the design of the drive train, the truck will be nice. 6.8L v10, 5.4L v8, and a 7.3L v8 diesel are the current engine choices. 112" wheelbase, standard tires are 33x12r16, and it has the choice of manual or automatic trans.
