I am glad to get some good feedback. I am glad to hear that the Volant works well, because I thought that looked like the best one. When I posted earlier everybody kept telling the cheapest way to go. I don't like to go cheap when it comes to performance. I appreciate the help.
I am not in any way a associated with any company that sell's volant or makes Volant products, but All I have to say is that I wanted an intake that was sealed cause I did not want to have to clean the filter all the time and the Volant was the only one available when I was looking for an intake and Yes the Volant intake is not cheap but its not cheaply built either, this intake is well made and so far I am very happy with my decision to get it....but I also considered the AFE Stage II and even though it came out after I got the Volant I like the AirAide one that is now on the market(it looks like an AFE stage II). I know there are other people out there that have Volants and I have read some posts of some very happy AFE stage II owners and also the Sever Duty AIS intake. And of coarse some people are very happy with the 6637 mod too so there are some good choice's for intakes. But I am with you on the whole price subject and how well built the intakes are.

In the case of the 6637, you're not sacrificing quality -- it flows more than most anyone needs and filters very well. Sometimes a "cheap" mod isn't any worse than the most expensive option out there. I have the 6637 and love it...
I cant say I gained any milage that was really notealbe but even the guy's with the 6637 say they didnt gain any milage so I would not buy an intake just on the note that you might gain some MPG's.
I suppose these mods affect mileage to some extent, but most of us do it for superior filtering and better flow (definitely required once a chip goes in). I think it also lowers your EGT a bit, so all this is good...
i thought the problem with kn was the poor fitting lid and poor seal on the stock airboxes. i think alot of people run kns on there stuff with zero problems.
This was with the cone style K&N. No airbox to add to the equasion. BTW, this was a truck a friend of mine looked at and when he pulled the intake, he took it back to the dealer. Too bad, too. It was a real nice extended cab 4x4 Lariat....

The intention with CHEAPEST was to save you some cash without sacrificing quality, not let you buy a CHEAP performing product (which the NAPA 6637 filter is by no means a cheap performing product). But like I said before it all comes down to how much money you want to spend. I cant speak for Volant or AFE or AIS intakes I have not had them in my truck, I have had the K&N and that was a cheap product and expensive at that $200. The NAPA 6637 flat outfilters the K&N and is $40. Going CHEAP in this matter is not talking about performance but price.
