Cold Air Intake

I live in Alaska and was wondering what the best Air Intake would be for my 7.3, I have heard alot of different things but really not sure what to believe. I am trying to get the best fuel mileage out of my truck as possible.

What it really comes down to is $$$$$. AFE and AIS makes an awesome intake with outstanding performance and filtration but they are $$$$$. AIS is not as $$$ as the AFE. If you are looking for awesome performance and filtration and want to save some $$$ then the NAPA 6637 "KWIK MOD" is a great choice. Good Luck and I hope this helps

What is the NAPA 6637, is just a filter, and how much is it.

Thanks,

Tom

So I guess K&N, Volant, Bully Dog, and all the other name brand air intakes are not any good or what? I'm thinking I need more air since I have a 4" exhuast from the turbo back and I have an edge tuner on it.

I run an AFE Stage II (so do a few others here) and love it. Lots of air and superior filtration. It's pricey though.

My buddy at work runs the 6637 and he swears by it. No problems and great filtration at a very reasonable price.

It all depends on how much you want to spend really.

Thanks for the info. The only reason I am asking questions about the intake is because I have of a few people blowing up there turbo and they swear it is because of the reusable filters such as the K&N. I don't know if there is any truth to that. I think it might be the weather that we have here in Alaska.

Yes, the kn filter is probably causing it. Its letting to much dirt buy and dusting the turbo.

Here's what the intake tube looks like with a K&N on it:

Hey bigbear,

I dont know who is saying that Volant is "not any good"......hmm , I have the Volant 7.3L intake and I love it, its not to loud compared to a open element and it comes with a very nice filter.......go to my gallery and look at my Blackstone oil analyisis and look at the silicone level. My silicone level is low and that means the filter is doing its job so I would recomend Volant if you interested in them.

i thought the problem with kn was the poor fitting lid and poor seal on the stock airboxes. i think alot of people run kns on there stuff with zero problems.

That was another part as well. If the filter isnt oiled right, its lets too much through.

people will either over oil or not oil it enough either way it is a problem. I personally run the AFE stage 2 intake and i love it and would recommend it to anyone very well engineered.
