Plow, I did the FPR screen cleaning and it was bad. I would guestimate that i had a maybe a 12% flow thru it. I took it completely out and scraped it and soaked it and blew it out that reinstalled. truck seemed to have a bit more get up and go when i hit the pedal but the shifts on my E4OD seemed a a little harsh. is my PCM going to need time to re adjust to the new flow? also at the bottom of my fuel filter housnign theres a semi circle piece of medal attached to a spring with some small i'd say 1/4 inch diameter disks on it. what the heck is that thing?
also i havent gutted the kitty yet. i am hoping for wed after work to do that. cant do it tomorrow caus we have our first offical family picture coming up

I don't think cleaning the FPR screen should make your tranny shift any differently, but you never know. Pull #9 fuse under the hood and put it right back in. This resets the PCM. If the harsh shifts return you have something else going on.
The deal at the bottom of the filter housing is a fuel heater. Was the wire still connected at the 3 points you mentioned. If it get loose you may start blowing #22 fuse.

i will pull the fuse #9 right after i get done with this post. the fuel heater is only totally connected by the spring at the one end but seems to have good contact at the other points as i havent had to replace any fuses...
