Question 2001 E150 Van, Wheels/Tires, Remote Control Programming

Hi!

I purchased recently a 2001 E150 Conversion Van on ebay and imported it to Sweden. The van works great besides two issues:

Wheels/tires: the van came equipped with what seems to be factory wheels, size 15x7". The tires though have the dimension 275/65-15 which is quite different from what is stated for that van and definitely too wide for a 15x7" wheel. Handling is bad (groove wander), Ride is bad, too (shudder). In addition, the front tires scrub against the front stabilizer bar at full steering lock. I am looking for a tire/wheel set-up that provides both good handling and ride, and gives reasonable gas mileage. I would assume that I would need to reduce tire width to appr. 255, and maybe increase wheel size to 16" dia. Any suggestions about what tire/wheel size (and tire pressure/make) to use are appreciated.

Remote control: I purchased a separate remote control and tried to program it. When following the instructions in the users manual and the workshop manual (turning ignition key eight times within ten seconds), the van refuses to enter programming mode. Unfortunately that particular issue is not described in the troubleshooting section of the workshop manual. Any suggestions about what to try next are appreciated.

Thanks.

Hey, I cannot help you with the programing but the tires yes.
Had 8 E series both personal and on the job
There is nothing wrong with your 15" rims if you want to save some money..but...
These vans are just to heavy and bulky for a "car" tire and a rim to narrow for that width tire.
Unless the tire is for LT...lite truck..the side walls are just to weak and the van is all over the road. Just make sure you get a heavy sidewall tire rated for a 7in rim. Al

You need to put P235/75/15XL, or LT235/75/15 tires on those rims. That will give you a better ride and better stability. As far as the shudder pull the front wheels off and turn the rotors by hand and feel them. They may be warped.
