Interpreting Scanner Codes

Hey guys. I need some help interpreting some codes I just read on my truck. About two or three weeks ago, I had my truck in to have a vibration checked out.Mechanic couldn't find the vibration, AND he also told me the truck wasn't showing any codes. I just happened to have a code reader left over from an older truck I had and I find out it will fit this truck too. I hook it up and low and behold I'm showing 5 different codes! Codes 172 and 173 are I believe the oxygen sensor. 327 and 328 are for the EGR valve I think, and this one I'm not sure at all, code 634. I think it might have something to do with the tranny. My question is this, should I just go ahead and replace the oxygen sensor and the EGR valve? Will one cause another to show bad, i.e., will a bad oxygen sensor cause the EGR valve to throw a fault? Also, what is code 634 and what should I do about it? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Before tossing money at it test the individual components.

Yes.. check out the components and test/replace in the order of operation. In other words, an upstream sensor/actuator can impact other sensors downstream. The O2 sensor is last, so fix the EGR problem first.

634 says "Transmission Manual Lever Position Sensor circuit out of self test."

You could replace the MLPS, but unless the tranny is not shifting right, I wouldn't worry about it. There may be test procedures for it in a haynes manual, but I haven't looked.

As a matter of fact, I have noticed lately that the transmission is shifting really harsh. Coming home today it sounded real loud when it shifted and it just "slammed" into the next gear. I guess it took that to get my attention. Can you tell me where this sensor is located?
