I started using Firefox a couple of years ago and haven't looked back. This 2.0 version is taking a bit of getting used to, but so far it rocks. When you get really tired of patching IE every other day, give Firefox a spin.
What are you guys using for add-ons? I love my adblock and forecastfox
Quite a few, going back to IE for something is now almost as bad as going back to dial up.
"All-in-one Gestures" (mouse gestures) right click and move cursor for many different functions
"All-in-one Sidebar" really nice, doesn't disappear unless you want it to
"Answers" highlight a word and click to pop a definition from answers.com
"Autohide" gives you a true full-screen on request.
"Customize Google"
"Download Statusbar"
"FireFoxMenuButtons" many more icons to selectively add to your browser
"Google Tabs"
"Greasemonkey" adds all kinds of possible scripts
"Linkification" Automatically turns written web addresses into clickable links
"PDF Download" more options to choose from, can load it in HTML also
"SplitLink" For links that have more than one possible url, let's you choose
"Statusbar Addressbar" Moves addressbar to bottom of browser, to save space
"Stumbleupon" Let's you choose from a menu and gives you semi-random sites on request
I also have the "minifox" theme to decrease icon size. Space saver.
...Among others .
Most people who use firefox don't even recognize it on mine. Then they want their's the same way.
I also have been using Foxfire for a few years now. I really like it. I don't use their homepage because I don't like GOOGLE. Because they track all your searches. So far Yahoo doesn't as far as I'm told. But I know Google does and I feel violated by them tracking what I search for. Just the idea of it. I don't use a computer to do anything wrong.
I do alright with having to use one click bookmarks. I usually leave pages open all day anyway and have all in one gesture to reduces mouse movement. I had some miniature page tabs that also fit in the top toolbar, but didn't use them enough to justify the real estate.
I still have tabbed browsing, just didn't have any opened. They open up and take up some space, but they are miniaturized too. The side toolbar more than makes up for the other stuff.
ATC you easily have both of those and more standard on FF
A lot of the features in IE7 came about because of firefox. The "one click links" at the top started in netscape, as did the tabbed browsing. MS didn't think the consumers wanted it, so they didn't add it in IE6. Then after 3 years of losing market share to Firefox they started to ask those that use it what their favorite features were.
Google only tracks your searches to help make them more relevant. The more popular links it keeps on the top of the searches. It actually makes for a better search engine because you can find what you're looking for a lot faster. Yahoo does the same thing.. I won't use yahoo search for other reasons.
