Lonewolftx, Thanks for the response.
Yeah, I don't race anymore either (now that I'm advanced.........in years). But I do want to put the sensor where it will do the most good even if it is a pain in the rear. I think what you are trying to prevent is overheating the turbine?! I tend to be **** about engines and such. Just got finished putting a complete engine analyzer in my plane and it took me 2+ days to complete, but I'm happy with it. But never had a diesel or anything with a blower before and I will be towing and we have some "medium sized" mountains that I have to deal with also. Oh yeah, do you have an after market gauge set? I've been looking but haven't found exactly what I want yet nor am I sure what I need. I have had a few suggestions, you got any? Thanks, Rex.

Lonerwolftx, do you notice much of a difference in the boost readings between the stock and aftermarket guage?

It is mounted in the dash with the normal screw clamp that comes with it. So you have to take the dash off to get it out. Why would yu want to take it out?

A more detailed reading is avaliable from the Autometer as it it is at eye level and gives the full detail of the numbers as you accelerate.

So I just thought I would update on the power elbow install. Im seeing AT LEAST 1 mpg better around town and on the highway, This is what im seeing on the overhead display, when I hand calculate its always real close to the display so I usually just go off of it anymore. So around town Im at about 13.5 where before I was at like 12. My town is nothing but hills and I drive pretty hard, so not to bad for having 35s. Highway is about 16 now. Over 70 I dont do very good with my bumper and all. Its around 14-15. This is just what ive seen in about the last month, Not really enough time to claim anything for sure, but Ill keep updating. Also on a side note, Im not sure when our summer fuel starts flowing around here, so Im sure that could be playing a part. Also Im in windy Southern Wyoming, so that plays a huge part at highway speeds, with a good 40 mpg tailwind I can see 20mpg, head wind not so good. lol.

Im still mostly impressed with how much smoother it runs, with a crossover line mod it may sound like a 6.4

I still have a CEL from removing the throttle body, (darn Cali trucks) so Ill have to figure out something there one of these days.

I had my power elbow out in about a week ago, I'm impressed with the performance of it. I can see why it would make a differance when you look inside the factory cast elbow, it has a big turn in it - that would make things swirl bigtime. I haven't checked the mileage, but I wouild think it would help.

Ok I just did a little test here, Another windy day in southern Wyoming, took a trip down the highway heading southeast at 67 mph, cruz set, Averaged 13.8 mpg, traveled 30 miles, decreased in elevation couple hundred feet (roughly) Very hilly road. On the way back traveling the same speed I averaged 18 almost the whole way but after the last hill getting into town I was reading 17.5 mpg. Overhead display. Can you guess which way the wind was blowing? haha. This is why I have trouble getting an average mpg for my truck. Theres rarely a calm day around here.

A-rod, do you have a recent flash? Some of the more recent flashes (within the last six months or so) are supposed to disable the throttle plate strategy. I'm waiting to see if this is true before I spend the $150 for the elbow and the $100 deductable for the reflash.

I just installed a new power elbow on my 04; purchased from dfuser ($155 shipped). I removed the functioning throttle body and replaced it with a 05-07 model elbow. Installation was uneventful.

Performance appears to be noticeable improved...pedal response seems to be a lot quicker and the RPMs are peaking a lot quicker than they used to. I can honestly say the turbo feels much more responsive and alive. I drive a manual trans so I'm pretty in-tune with the feel of this engine.

Bottom Line: There is no doubt in my mind that this mod is making a difference...at least for us '04 guys with the throttle body.

Oh yeah, no CEL after 3-4 starts. And the guage port is in a perfect position...placed high, facing the cab, and out of the way of everything. They definetly placed it well.

DBW70, what;s the most recent flash you have? I found a shop in Southern California that will do the latest reflash for $85.00, and hopefully get rid of the throttle body strategy (and CEL).

I'm running the latest flash for mine - FSM8 - with the '05 elbow. Not sure if the throttle plate is still used or not, but with the assembly removed I still set a P0488 DTC - but not CEL. Runs great though!

Thanks Mark. When was your truck reflashed? Did you just remove both connectors from the throttle plate and secure them out of the way?
