I am considering doing a sas. Does anyone have any helpful info? I have a 89 f150 and just plan lost with this and was just looking for anyone who has done this. Thanks for the help in advance....
I did that swap on my 250.the solid axle will raise your truck up 2 inches so you will need blocks to level the back out.i had to get 4inch blocks for the rear of my truck or it would look like it was sagging if i didnt.I also had to get a drop down bracket from skyjacker where the old axle pivots.my and my buddy did the swamp took use about 4 hours and we never did it before.hardest thing was holding the truck up with jacks while the old axle was out it can get a little tippsy.my dana 60 was out of a 88 f 350 it has king pins not ball joints so its stronger.does your truck have a lift kit on it?
Yea, the truck is already lifted. It has a 6 inch lift now. I was thinking of going to a dana 44 straight axle. What all did you have to do. I would also like to go with a coil spring front if at all possible. Is there anyone else out there besides fabritech to get what i need to do this job right the first time?
The suspension under the fronts of 250s and 150s are not the same. (4wd 250s use leaf springs, 2wd use coils for one thing, TTB arms are different length, etc.) The easiest way to SAS from what I've seen is to use the D44 and all the suspension out of a 78/79 F150 or Bronco. Real close to a bolt in affair and you shouldn't have to spend a fortune for the 'kits' out there. I've almost decided to go this route myself. For more information go to:
so your saying his truck is 2 wheel drive?why even bother go get a 4x4 man.
Not at all! In fact, I'd hope that that 6" lift ain't on a 2wd! Kinda ridiculous if it was, but anyway... I just said that the suspension on 2wd and 4wd 250s are different which are both different to 150s and Broncos which are the same whether 2wd or 4wd. This only holds for 1980-1996, by the way. But as far as an SAS on an F150 goes, it really doesn't matter if you start out with 2wd or 4wd since they share the same frame and factory suspension attachment points. All that means is that he can't just bolt a D60 from a F350 in and go like on your 4wd F250.
I was thinking of going with a d44 out of a late 70's model. And yes it is a 4x4 by the way. Does anyone have anything out there to read on this swap so I can have something to go by. Or is this just going to be a custom fab all the way through?
There is a lot of info to bad had on fullsizebronco.com too.. they have a whole forum dedicated to SAS. and.. doing a search should yield some results from this site.
the coil buckets are not the same. you need a set 70's coil buckets and new coil springs. ether grind or wash the rivets off with the torch. a new track bar mount will need to be built as will the radius arm brackets. if i had a camera that i could upload pictures i just did a swap on a 93' bronco. not a truck but the same idea
