I have a 1999 F-150 S/CAB XLT w/ just under 150k miles. Has anyone had a problem with the LEDs in the odometer blinking out? I have had this issue sporadically over the last 75K miles or so. Nothing else in the dash or odometer looses power. Usually a few good jars to the dash gets the odometer back, but it is happening more frequently with less success getting them back. Before I go digging through the dash blindly, wanted to see if anyone else had seen this problem.
Same problem here... just not up to ripping my dash apart
Its not that hard to do, I have torn about twenty plus dashes part. just think of it as a puzzle, I think i will be doing mine here shortly, when I do i will take step by step pictures
your not taking the dash out. you are removing the plastic parts around the steering column and instrument cluster, head light switch,,, then removing the instrument cluster, flip it over and remove the gauge set circuit board from the cluster. see the photos to do the solder job on the back of teh board. i think it took maybe 3 hours. i did it 2 years ago and dont remember exactly.
I did this a couple of months ago. Follow the step by step instructions with pictures and you can do it. This is about a 3 - 4 hour job if you take your time. It was probably the biggest confidence builder that I have attemped to date. I had never soldered anything like this. The tiny pin is very scary, but with a magnifying glass and a steady hand you can do it.
