Today I did a oil change on my 05 screw 4.6 v8 w/ 24000 miles.I have done all my own oil changes since I bought it new, will this affect a warranty repair. The engine sounds like a diesel at idle not right away. I have to let it warm up for a minute or two and then the noise starts. I can not hear the noise from the inside this maybe why I haven't heard it before. My oil is motorcraft with a motorcraft filter. If I raise the idle to 800 - 1000 the noise goes away (I had someone press the pedal while I listened) I have read other post all talking about the 5.4 not 4.6. I appreciate the help guys thanks!!
I just filled up at a BP that I always use. I also changed the fuel filter today to don't know if that has anything to do with it. maybe air in the line.
Maybe you overfilled it, although i doubt it. I'd take it to the dealership, and actually talk to a technician and walk with him out to the truck and show them, thats about the only way that the dealership will no whats wrong. Good luck.
Thanks I have already emailed the dealership I have bought it from and I put 6 quarts in it and checked the dipstick all looks good but sounds like a diesel.
I went to the dealer today and they told me that my engine does not have a knock. That it is normal and if the noise doesn't get worse with higher rpm's there is no problem. My neighbor has a 97 4.6 and his doesn't have a knock. I can not hear it inside my truck but outside I hear it. The dealer also said since I have done all my own oil changes any engine claim would be denied from ford motor corp. Does this sound like a bunch of BS? Should I go to another dealer? Looking for some advice guys thanks in advance.
