Broken windshield

It seems like I just read about this problem earlier in the week in this forum. My only question is that I am quoted $350.00 for the windshield replacement. In other vehicles I had windshields replaced and found distortion in lower left corner, so I just automatically went to local Ford dealer. 2005 F - 350 KR, F x 4 with most options, 6.0 PSD. Any comments appreciated. Insurance deductible more than replacement cost.

We moved here to GA from FL. Nice in FL. Just call insurance company and they fix it. No charge. State law in FL. I lived there for ten years. Several broken. Learned not to allow knock offs. Not same quality as OEM. Mine too DRW.

In the auto store they have stuff to seal those chips, I don't remember the name, it has a disc that goes over the chip and a plunger filled tube you put on the disc and release into the disc.
I caught rocks off the road to my windshield last year just after having it replaced, used that stuff and they have not gotten any bigger(one is just a tiny chip and the other is a quarter size with slight spidering).Cost between $7-10 depending where you get it.Takes 30-60 minutes depending on weather. If you get to it soon enough might save you money if you to pay out of pocket for windshield.

i thought i would have the chip repaired next week. would rather have a professional do it. kinda hard to take with the truck less than 24 hours old but things like that dont bother me like it used to and life goes on.

Last one I had put in was $228.xx. That was a Carlite with SD on top, just like the original.

Get the oem and don't worry.

I had mine replaced {05 F-250} and the unit comes with all the moulding and trim on it as one piece. The old one is cut out the black gasket material is removed and the new one drops right in.

You absolutely can not tell it from the original or that it was ever replaced.

My insurance company required me to get the chip repaired first, and if it was not to my satisfaction then they would replace the whole thing. After the chip was filled it looked like the windshield was painted in one spot with a clear laquer.

Got the whole thing replaced the next day and am glad I did.

I got mine replaced at a local glass shop that has a good reputation. $288 installed for the Carlite OEM. And that's in Jersey where everything is expensive. If I didn't tell you, you'd never know it's not the original windshield.

I've read threads on here about dealerships quoting $700 for an OEM windshield!
