What would be the cost to have a windshield replaced on my 56 f-100?
A guy that is here replacing the windshields on our 2 Explorers, has a buddy that will put in a new windshield for $195. Labor and glass (I have the gasket)
I thought just the glass would be around $300 by it's self.
If you could get back to me ASAP it would be greatly appreciated.
225.00 installed in short order full guarantee. PPG manufactured. Took all of 3 minutes using my Dennis rubber and my polished SS trim. Never a leak, used no sealants. Rubber was lubed with linseed oil and cleaned up well.
Is linseed oil a good solvent for the gaskets?
Does it sweel at all or just for a slipcoat?
Probably try it when I get to that point in time.
Does anyone have a picture of the mystery tool that is used for installation?

Hi Mick. The linseed oil did not swell the new rubber at all. It just acts as a lubricant and then dries off. It however did stain my brand new concrete drive when the window tech helper was refilling his applicator bottle. Its gone now.
The tool is clothesline rope. I watched the guys put mine in in under a minute once the rubber and trim was on the windshield and the rope was in the channel. These guys do classic trucks and cars all the time and are a team so it went ever so smooth. No bis secret to put one in yourself, I just did not want to do it myself anymore.

You can always fly down. I have plenty of cars you could use while here. Iffin you do not have family here, there is always a spare room for bunkin. I am also a gourmet cook.

Wow, can`t beat an offer like that with a stick....It would be very tempting if I could get away for at least 10 days to get there and back.
It`s sounding more like a quick trip with the 05 F350 and the 56 on a
trailer.
George,
I have a windshield that I took out of my 56 that you can have if you want to come to El Cajon to pick it up....
Hey Charlie, thanks for the offer
what kind of condition is it in? (not to sound picky)
Mine's in good shape, just pitted from 52 years of use. No cracks, or fog (just old).
I'm in Lemon Grove, so EC isn't far at all.

I saw the pictures in your gallery of all the chrome goodies. Are you doing an IFS on your truck right now?
If so, what are you doing with your front end set up? (axle, brakes, steering, and leafs?)
I have a 62 Falcon I want to turn into a straight axle gasser.
