Tail Gate lock mechanism
When closing my tail gate somtimes one of the latches will not
lock down all the way you almost have to slam it hard for it to
latch i've oiled the chit out of it and manuely worked the latch
and it works freely but somtimes it still wont latch.
Can you adjust the strike pin any? All ideas will help
Thanks Jeff

Jeff;
The only way to fix this is to remove the latch assy from the tailgate, oil it and free it up until everything is working easily, then re-install it. I'd recommend doing this to both at the same time, just to avoid having to take the tailgate apart twice. This is about a 1.5 hour job, maybe a little longer your first time, but well worth it.
It's surprising that Ford never got those latches right, kept using the same rust-prone pieces of 'mist' from '78 through '96. Guess it's because the Dearborn engineers never drive an old one!
