Does anyone know how to move the tail gate latch to the inside of the gate? I have shaved the door handles and would like to do the same to the tail gate maybe even the gas door. This is a 77 2wd ranger xlt.
Ive seen kits to do them. But cant remember where. If you could find an old tailgate, you could cut a piece out of it to fill the hole on the outside. Not sure how the inside would be done though. Ive also seen people use seatbelt buckles to secure the old stepside type tailgates.
I cant remember the name of the kit but i did it on an older chivy in auto body class that just had a flat piece of sheet metal that got screwed to the inside of the tailgate and a piece welded in to fill in the hole on the outside. I will try and find out the name of the kit for you.
The way the latch operates, I do not believe it would matter if it was mounted on the inside or outside. The latch merely pulls the latch rods together.
National parts depot has a kit to move the latch inside. I have not used it or have any other information but that they sell one. Was looking at it myself. Hopefully that link will take you there. It is on page 215 of there catalog. Hope tis helps. If you install it, please let us know how it works and what it looks like.
Thanks guys for the help NPD had it, but for $85.00 plus shipping to Canada and with the way Canada Post handles stuff i may be better off trying to build it myself. I'll keep you posted with pics.
