Just a quick questiona nd I've searched high low and can not find a straight answer. I have an 07 escape xlt without the tow package. I'm getting an aftermarket hitch and I'm going to install this in the next month. My question is about the harness. I've been reading and wondering what I need for this car for the harness. Do I need the harness with the converter being I don't have the tow package, or can I just get the harness without the converter and just plug it into the tail lights like on some other cars? Also I've read something about the turn flasher needs to be upgraded also. Which harness would work in my situaton???
I'm only guessing, but I think you will need the converter, etc. You might call either a Ford dealer or a U-Haul outlet. Or find someone else with an aftermarket hitch and ask them. Just lurk around a parking lot and hope you don't get arrested!
I ordered a trailer light harness from the dealership my wife works for. It plugged in on the left side in the spare tire well. I had to pull back the left side interior panel. The trailer lights did not work--I found out it must be the harness, cause the trailer lights work when plugged into another truck.
Call your local Ford dealer, they should be able to order a harness. It was about $30, if I remember correctly
You will need the converter because the Escapes have seperate turn and brake lights and a 4 pin trailer uses the same circuit for both. The voltage will backfeed the car if the converter with 2 diodes in it is not used.
That probaby explains why mine didn't work. What's a converter? WHere does it plug in? WHere do I get one or what do I ask for? Do you have a part number?
Had my 07 Escape wired for a utility trailer using the 4 prong connector. Bought a used utility trailer. Hooked up the lights...everything worked fine.First time out with the trailer, couple miles down the road noticed the left turn signal was not flashing. Back home, replaced bulb....everything OK. Next time out a few miles down the road, same thing...no left turn signal.Decided something was wrong with the trailer. No big deal. Now the problem.. Bought a pop up camper...had it wired by the dealer using the 7 point round connector...the one for lights , brakes , battery etc....... first time out with the camper.........30 miles up the road.........you guessed it ....NO left turn signal..... I did realize after disconnecting the plug and/or turning off the vehicle for a few minutes , the turn signal worked fine. Decided must be a tow vehicle issue and it was trippng something and then resetting itself. Its not a blown fuse. Turn signal never goes out without a trailer. Any ideas before I take it back to the dealer or somewhere for $ervice?
