2012 E 350 towing package information needed.

I've just purchased a 2012 E350 that does not have the factory towing package. Can anyone help me with part numbers or information about the
harness to install the trailer electrical hookup (7 pin). I think the harness is
back to the area of the rear axle because there are connectors there that seem to be capped off. Also I'm interested in the brake controller that the factory installs as an option.

Since you do not have the Class II wiring package, you will not be able to simply connect the pigtail and get a functional 7 pin connector. You will be missing B+, Reverse, and Brake wires in your main harness. With a little enginuity you can resolve these. B+ is easy, just go off the positive of the battery with a chunky wire, 30 amp fuse, and install a relay to trigger it off of ignition. Brake is easy. That comes off your brake controller. For reverse you could tap the backup lights, using a relay and your bat+ line.

I recommend taking it to a shop. You will also want to upgrade the auxiliary transmission cooler (replace it, do not string a second one in) unless you vehicle was specced with the heavy duty trans cooler option.

I just finished adding a brake controller and 7 pin to my 2012. Without a factory tow package, it is a bit of a nuisance to do. There are two really helpful videos available, one on installing the module required to setup for the brake/tail/turn signels and one on installing for the brake controller. I am not sure if it is OK to post links, but a certain supplier of hitches has a complete setup to do this install. I guess Ford decided if you don't buy their tow package, they are going to make it a pain to add your own. I searched high and low, there is no plug and play way to do it. If you have any specific questions, you can PM. I took my time, routing, wrapping, and tying, so I spent 3 easy afternoons doing it.

Thanks for the input. I didn't think Ford would make more than one wiring
harness for the vans but I've found that they certainly do. Yep, there's
no B+ or trailer wiring to the back. I'm going to remove part of the harness
from my "retired" 2003 E150 which had the factory package. I'll graft that harness into the E350.

Ford makes three harnesses actually. No Tow, Class I, and Class II wiring. If you do not have the 4-prong connector out back, then you have the No Tow harness. If you have the wiring for 4 pins, thats class I, and 7 pins is Class II.

If you have no tow, I normally tell people to get a 't-harness.' They come with relay/modulator boxes so you don't pop fuses quite so easily and no need to make crappy splices in your taillights.

Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring for 2012 Ford Van - Tow Ready 118551

Since you are already gonna have to run battery+ to the back of the van for the 7-pin trailer, this little box is a nice addition. Add on this plug kit which includes all the wire for b+ and brake, and you are pretty much there.

They have videos showing theory, etc. Here is a video showing it being insalled SPECIFICALLY on a 2012 Econoline. http://www.etrailer.com/tv-install-b...van-90885.aspx
