Front Driver Side Lighting Problems, rear brake light..

Hey guys,

I was cleaning up the Aero today and I happened to notice that the drivers side parking light wasn't on, but when I used the turn signal it came on. I didn't take it out yet, but it appears from browsing on my cd that this is the same bulb. Does this sound like an electrical problem?

Coincidently maybe the rear left tail light and brake light comes on, and the right side tail light comes on, but when braking the right side does not come on it does not brighten or come on when the brakes are applied and the lights are off. I took the cover off it appears to be the same bulb? I would have played with this a little more but its cold up here in Cincy and my wife was tired of pushing the brake pedal and wanted to go in..again the top bulb seems like the light on and braking bulb?

I'm terrible at electrical trouble shooting and I'm sure these are simple problems as my other one, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The parking lights use the low filament of a dual filament bulb. The brake lights use the high filament of the same bulb. It's possible for them to burn out independently. You can usually see the burnt filament when you look closely at the bulb. You can also check it with a volt-ohm meter.

Simple solution: Go to your local auto parts store and get a two-pack of bulbs. The model is probably 1156/1157, but you should be able to read the exact model number off of the old bulb. Replace the old with new, if they work, great. If not, the problem is some place else, and you can keep the new bulbs as spares in the car.

Be aware that these dual-filament bulbs must go into the socket a certain way. The little nubs on the side of the base are at different heights. If you insert it one way and it won't turn into position, pull it out, turn it 180 degrees, and try again.

Kimchee75 what xlt4wd90 said is right on the money. Take it one step further though and don't forget to buy the white lithuim grease that they sell in the little packets, This is the same stuff that they push on you when you buy break pads or break shoes. Aplly this white grease on the bottom of the bulbs before you install the, This good practice will keep the moisture away and possibly help prevent any future electrical problems as far as your lighting is concerned.
