Could someone tell me why my a/c is not that cool when sitting still, but when I'm moving it's cold as heck??? Any simple solution before I go pay a shop boocoo bucks?
Make sure the condensor is free from bugs and stuff. Ther condensor is the radiator looking thing in front of the radiator. If it is clogged up with bugs it can impede the limited airflow provided by the engine's fan. Once moving the forward momentum must overcome any "clogging".
Clean it out by flushing it out from the back. If you spray in the front you only push the stuff in deeper. You may have to remove the stuff to get a good angle of attack. Soak it down with the windshield washer stuff that is said to cut through bug grime or something similar first.
Also make sure your refrigerant is up to the correct pressure/amount.
My wifes 02 EX does the same thing, at idle vent temp is about 70-75, at hwy speeds i've seen it as low as 37 degrees, i took it to the dealer under factory warranty and they said everything was normal (of course), the condenser is clean, fan clutch maybe?
Probably not anything wrong with the clutch fan. This is just a common problem with our trucks. If nothing is wrong with it then a suggestions to improve it would either be install electric fans or try and find a Syclone fan clutch. Both would improve airflow over the condenser when parked.
I have the same problem. Last summer, I was very tired of it. Was thinking of putting on a additional pusher fan in the front. Others have done this, but I was not sure how to hook it up to the AC on wiring with the relay.
I don't think you need to hook it up the AC, per se. Just make it a manual switch. When you're idling or in stop-n-go traffic, flip the switch to activate the fan.
I hear ya on that ,but I would forget it is on and think that it would be better if it was turned on only when the a/c was activated. Then it is automatic like the rest of the system.
My bets are that there is someone around that knows which wire color is the ON wire and could tap into it into a relay then to the fan. Could also use the switch for a manual override in case of the unlikely stuck thermostat to help cool down temporarily.
Some of us have vastly improved this situation by disabling the EGR circuit (I'm sure there's a thread somewhere on that). The EGR circuit cools down your exhaust gasses with engine coolant and places a big load on the cooling system. The EGR is most active at idle.
your problem is just lack of air flow through the condenser. Put a fan on it and it'll be good. I did it last year I'm in FL and it made a world of difference.
I am good on freon. Just need to add some extra air at idle. Brains, how did you add your fan? I would like to put one on, but would like it to be controlled by the AC On and not manual so I have to turn it off and on every time I stop.
