brake control for towing

<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">If my 03 f-350(6.0l) comes with the towing package. Is there an easy way to hook up my brake control inside the truck. Or would I have to take it to the shop. I would assume that if the wiring is already in, that there would be a simple T-intersection devise to connect to. Is that correct. Could someone help me with this one.

Thanks

Your truck should have come with a short wiring harness that just plugs into a connector under the dash. The harness normally comes in the glove box when you purchase the truck new. If you didnt get one then you can purchase one from Ford. If you open the lower dash panel under the steering column, you should find the connection to the right side in the area of the lower dash support bracket. It's a 1,2,3 operation.

johnnys is correct about the harness coming with the truck. You can usually also purchase a harness from the controller manufacturer that has the plugs at both ends and it is just a simple plug and play operation from there.

Here is a thread with pics of the plug location under the dash.....

My power to the brake control only comes on when I turn my lights on manually(park light or fully on). No power if I leave it on automatic lights. Is that normal? The adaptor cable has 5 cables and the brake control has 4. The only cable I do not hook up is the green one. (red-red, white-white, blue-blue, black to brown)

Sounds to me like something is wired up wrong, the brake controller should come on any time the truck is on. One of the 5 wires in the factory plug is an illumination wire that only comes on with the lights, is it possible you accidently hooked to this one?

Yes I did, the brown wire is for Illumination. I thought that the brown would go with the black.

Sunreiner, are you manually hooking up your brake controller? What I mean is that are you splicing in wires?

What brand of controller are you using?

Is there not a plug-n-play for your controller to just plug into the factory plug behind the dash?

For example the Prodigy controllers offer a Ford-specific harness with simple plugs on both ends. One end for the Prodigy controller, the other end for the Ford factory harness plug.

Like this....
