Fair enough... I am going to have heads gone through first... Would it be prudent to have them resurface the exhaust flanges? If such a thing can be done. I havent seen this ever discussed before but it seems that with all the trouble of getting exhausts to seal up it wouldnt hurt tonhave a fresh surface.
...I would, but that's just my opinion. I really respect the knowledge that many of the FTE members bring here! Maybe someone else will chime in. Note also, the Sandersons don't use an exhaust gasket, just RTV. Also note, that the Hedmans (surface finish/coating) is not guaranteed if you have them on the engine during break-in. That tells me something, as Sanderson does not mention this.
I like not fiddling with gaskets. Probably worth calling sanderson and asking to be sure. But ultimately this is a world of contracts so unless it is disclosed to not do so the issue could probably be pressed.
As I posted a week or so ago, I ordered a set of Sanderson headers. I did this after a long phone conversation with them regarding different port alignments and my concern there.
They arrived yesterday. According to the invoice they are FF427's. However, they are DIFFERENT from the ones pictured earlier in this thread.
They have 4 bolt holes per cylinder. For a stock head you would use the vertically aligned set. I believe the diagonal holes are for Cobra Jets. What I do know is that my Edelbrock aluminum heads have ALL 4 holes. In addition, Sanderson includes header bolts for ALL the holes.
I also think I know why alignment to the exhaust port is not an issue, but will have to verify it when I pull the old headers. I believe their tube hole is big enough to encompass either the upper or lower aligned ports.
I'll post more when I know.

According to the Sanderson website, the FF427 headers come in two configurations... "Standard Heads" and "Cobra Jet (CJ) Heads," as well as in three different finishes.

absolutly have them surfaced!!! The ears cup, PIA to seal.
Open headers are illegal, better haul aZZ to the muffler shop. Get there as quick as you can. After you get there, you find yourself asking if they can install dump flanges.
Sanderson's headers don't use a gasket. All that is used is a very light and thin smear of high-temp RTV to take up any irregular surfaces on your cylinder heads. That's it.
If any of you are in NorCal, Sanderson usually has a booth at the GoodGuys shows in Pleasanton. If you buy from the booth, they'll knock off like $75 from the standard price... yes, $75! I picked up another set of ceramic coated FF427s for an engine I don't have for a vehicle I have not yet built... but there is only one direction prices go and that is "up".
Btw, Hedman just came out with Sanderson FF427 clones. The price point is lower than Sanderson but I'm guessing it's due to flange & tube thickness.
I looked at the ceramic coated but at $550 not gonna and the painted from them was $450. I went plain at $350 and will use the tech line nano ceramic paint I used on a set I used on another conversion and have over 800 miles on and they still look good. I restored a 74 bronco for my friend and used the same paint and his look good. eastwood sells it.
