I had a set of shortie tri-Y's that I ran on a 428CJ back in the dark ages, I removed and threw away a set of the cast iron 427 manifolds (they weren't worth jack in 1969). Oh, what I wouldn't give to have those back now.
I have the FF427 shortys on my truck. The FF390 looks shorter, and may even be better. When I built my pipes I had to start out with a fairly sharp turn from the collector to keep every thing up in the frame and not hanging down. Since the ff390 looks shorter,it may be easier to pipe...the other thing I did was to make a little heat shield out of exhaust pipe that mounted to the rear tube near the starter. It keeps the heat off the starter, I tack welded a couple of nuts to the tube and just screwed the heat shield on with a couple of short bolts. The air space in between lets the heat be carried away.
I am looking to replace manifolds/exhaust on my 75 F-100 4x4... Looking for value but also proper fitting; none of this way below the frame stuff (preferably inside the frame though). At a glance the (Hedman headers PN 89120) look like they are it; do these pretty much follow the factory routing?
I have seen Flowtechs and Hookers around the same price if not slightly less; any objections or thoughts on what might best represent what I am looking for?
Planning on attaching them to a nice FlowMaster exhaust; again following the original dual exhaust path. Thanks!
