At 50 or above, holding a steady speed, I have a noise from the engine. Not a grinding noise, I would call it a cavitating sound. When accellerating or decelerating it does not make this sound, only when holding a steady speed (2.79 gears, 225/60/15 tires if this helps). It seems like it might be that the timing chain stretched out and is rubbing the timing cover, but i'm not sure. Would it stretch that much and not jump? Other than this it runs great and gets 16 mpg, which I am very happy with being that it has 240K on it. Original timing chain BTW.

I had a new distr do that, took about 1000 miles before the bushings went bad....I replaced the distr and the went away.
also check the belt tentioner (sp) alt and ps pump use a long screwdriver..put it against your ear and then hold it on the alt, ps, etc. while it's making the noise.

Well, it's had an alternator replacement also. It has been making this sound for a long time, it's just getting worse lately. It used to just do it over 60 but it seems be doing it at lower speeds now. (I don't have a tach). Also, it seems worse after it has warmed up than when cold.
