Hey everyone, new to this site and not sure if this is the right place for this but i think it is. Im buying my dads stock 97 f150 4x4 offroad. It is stock with no lift or anything and i plan on eventually puttin a lift kit on it but dont have the money for that once i buy new wheels and tires for it (hopefully 16x8 wheels, and 255 /85R16 BFG MT) but anyways, once i buy that i wont have much money left but want a little lift on it to make sure i dont have any rubbing issues and for a little more aggresive stance. I was thinking about doing an add a leaf on the rear for a few inches, and ive heard people talking about cranking the torsion bars on the front to add a few inches of lift, can you really do this and how do you do it, will it have any negative effects on the truck? Also i know someone will say do a body lift, ive heard bad things about them so i doubt i will want to do that.
Thanks any help is appreciated.
naw dude, body lifts sound like exactly what you need, you will eventually talk to liquid, he knows what hes talking about when it comes to body lifts and torsion key lifts, he'll hook you up man, but add a leafs are going to make your truck stiff as hell in the back, so idk if you want to do that, body lift sounds like what you want man, unless you dont mind a crazy stiff ride in the back
i read on here somewhere about body lifts which made me not get one. a body lift lifts the body, the motor mounts to the frame and so does the bumpers. when you lift the body it moves the radiator causing it to be out of line with the motor and can cause some cooling issues. the bumpers connected to the frame and the body going up speaks for itself. anyone have another opinion? more info? if you save and get a suspension lift dont get blocks in the rear my truck rides like a tank if you judge it on the rear end, do a spring swap but imho...if you save and get a suspension lift you wont regret it and you may as well go big because you'll get tired of a 3" or 4" quick
yeah i know that they should clear but ive heard people say that they rub a little sometimes, so i jsut want a little extra clearance, and a little more aggressive stance untill i can buy a suspension lift, if i do get a body lift it wont only be maybe a 2 in, any suggestion as to which brands make good ones?

search the other topics till you find a guy with the name liquid 1, ask him, he knows what he talking about he just installed a 3 inch body lift on his truck and it looks good, he also did a torsion key lift, so hes go tlike 7 inches of lift with no suspension lift, but he should be able topoint you in the right direction
Thanks bla for the kind words....countryboy, I put a 3" body lift on an older S10 2.8L and abused it for 5 years I NEVER had a cooling issue, Ive heard of this issue, But dont know anyone personally thats had an issue, A body lift from performance assesarys either a 2" or 3" from 4wheelparts is $170.00 its a great and complete kit and the only thing you need to move is the front fan shroud which is easy per instructions in kit..If your truck is 4x4 the 2" torsion key is another cheap way to lift But it is a monster to install the new rehexed torsion keys, But you can bump up to a 305 tire, check out my gallery, ...If you need any help give me a holler..
I am running a 285/75/16 (33x11.50) on my truck without any modifications to the suspension. They will fit just fine on your truck without any lift. I would save yourself some money, especially since you will be cutting it close with funds. Or, put that money towards something else that will make your truck stand out.
I agree with atc crazy, a 285 should fit fine, you might need to adjust torsion bars a tic, a friend of mine runs that setup tire with no probs, any bigger go with a lift..
liquid your truck is real nice, like the look of it, but i think im going to just get the wheels and tires on there first and depending on how much money i have left ill decide what ill do, i think i might do the torsion key kit, ive got a few buddies who im sure between us we can figure it out, thanks for yalls help
