people with lifted dually's
hey guys, i am looking into lifting my dually. i am thinking a 6 inch lift with 35x12.50x16's would look cool. what about the rear tires?? would i be able to run these tires without buying new rear wheels?? i have 16x8 inch wheels, would the 12.50's fit?? what brand lift do you have?? all spring rear or blocked rear?? does it matter for towing?? this thing has to be able to haul the exact same weight lifted or stock. how many miles could i expect before replacing the bigger tires?? what all is included in the lift?? would i need to change rear ends in my truck?? as far as i know their the stock rear ends with 235x85R16's would the diffrence be worth the money??? i would think the bigger tires would pull fewer RPM"s on the freeway but might be a little harder for stop and go driving what do you guys think?? thanks a lot

I dunno about fitment of the 12.50's, that a tire would be able to tell ya, go with blocks if you want the same tow rating, or find a company that has HD lifted springs and/or a combination of both. You could always get lifted springs with airbags too. Swampers will wear out FAST compared to highway designed tires, if you tow a heavy load, and tow frequently I wouldn't expect to get more than 5000 miles out of swampers. The larger tires will pull fewer rpms all around, and this will make your rig seem like a dog, especially going from 32's to 35's. Your tranny may start to hunt more when going up hills and towing, and that is not a very good thing, you would want to consider a gear swap with that size tire change. And you definately will not need to change the rear end out, plenty strong for towing and wheeling the dualie platform.

I was looking at buying a dually truck because I could have gotten a great deal on one, but when I started doing research on lifting it, I was not happy.
You can fit slightly larger tires on Ford rims, but they will look silly with 6" of lift. If you want a tire that isn't as aggressive as a super swamper, then you have to buy aftermarket rims, which are hard to find and expensive. Stockton wheels quoted me $250 EACH for custom steel wheels to run 35x12.50s with 6" of lift. I decided that I didn't really need a dually and settled for an F250.
