302 Motor mount installation?

302 Motor mount installation?

I am soon to drop the 302 into my 64, I bought a motor mount conversion bar from Tom at Flashback F-100. Anyone else have pics of a 302 installed, or have tips on where to mount this. It looks wierd being 3 pieces. I will get some pics up tomorrow. Thanks

Swapped the 6 cyl. for 302 on 65 F100, not sure if same cross member setup for the 64. Installed 302 engine perches w/ mounts, set the engine in the compartment, then installed the power trane. If recall, only had to drill 1 of the holes on each side for the engine perch. Not sure if it applys, found the clutch ball on my 65 screws directly into side of engine block but threads do not match. Suggest getting clutch ball from donor truck, or tap the threads on the clutch ball to match treads on the block, which is what I ended up doing. There have been few recent posts on the subject you may want to run a search in this forum.

Is this what the 65 looks like, I am confused as to why the engine one is 3 pieces, and still where to put the transmission one.

The brackets/mounts (?) in pic's do not look familear to me. Only have front engine mounts on my 65, no rear. The perch, 1 on each side, mounts to the frame at the front crossmember. Always thought 61-66 with the 302 engine swap for 2 wheel drive is the same. Perhaps more knowledgeable member more familiear with the swap will chime in. Also suggest running search on subject under '302 engine swap' or under something simular.

1965 and later F100's have Twin-I-Beam front suspension, while the 1964 and earlier F100's do not. 1965 and later F100's use different 6 and 8 cylinder engines than the 1964 and earlier models.

Therefore, the frame and all the crossmembers are different between 1964 and 1965 F100's.

Sorry, again learn something new thru FTE, goes to show an old dog can learn new tricks. Perhaps member who has made the 61-64 swap will be able to provide info and whether or not hardware in pic's are correct for the application.

If the member ordered the adapter kit for a 1964, they should have sent him one for a 1964. OP, you need to contact the seller to see if the kit you received is correct.

I'm an old dog too...

The engine one is 3 piece to fit different applications. The two outer pieces should fit over the ends of the center piece. Hold it in place and slide the 2 small pieces out to fit the frame. I'm not sure if it all gets welded together or bolted. As for the tranny mount, I would assemble the engine and tranny, and locate it as far back as practical while still allowing room to work on it. Simply bolt the mount on to the tranny, and mark the location once you figure it out. If it's too far back, you might not be able to reach the engine/tranny bolts in case one item or the other needs removing. You also need to keep an eye on all the other stuff under the hood, such as crossmembers, steering gear, etc., to be sure there's no interference. Bear in mind that the engine is normally not centered, but shifted over to the passenger side a couple inches. Retro-fitting engines in old trucks is not that hard, but you need to take your time and double check everything. Hopefully you have a good way to suspend the engine and tranny while you fit and measure everything. An engine is heavy enough to damage or remove human body parts, so make sure it is properly and safely supported. I'm going to try a different approach. I read an article on using later model mounts and towers, and using them to fabricate a crossmember. I'll let you know how it works out.

Your profile says you have a 65. Read thru this. You will have to find a donor truck somewhere to get the perches out of. Comparison Photos of Engine Perches - FORDification.com

Tank, not sure if U mentioned the year engine, I believe the link DC posted mentions the years Ford truck perches could be swapped, perhaps thru later 79??

I seem to recall setting the 70 Torino 302 in the engine compartment positioning the engine to desired location then shifting the original perch, I do not believe it was more than 1-3 inches?? Whether the early model truck perch would apply to later than 79 model truck perches should require some research??

I have seen later model Ford truck 302 truck perches on Ebay, perhaps a correct fit would be the best alternative??

I would put my 65 in the 'hybrid' category, in that during my infancy stage I did not know any better until I came across input from FTE knowledgeable members when it came to installing upgrades: i.e., I varied; kept the pressure brake switch when the electric would be the better alternative, with regards to PS rather than going with the Bendix box I went with the Saginaw box and fortunately with the T18 floor shift only had to shorten the steering shaft and not the column, finally, with the power steering I used spacers between the firewall and MC
