Ok.. She's puking more and more.. With the SCT Livewire installed.. It's only occuring under heavy boost and suddenly cutting it (ie foot off pedal) and then I hear it boiling under the hood..
Now.. Is there anything I can do? Right now until SCT fixes the software for custom tunes (lastest update didnt work) i'll be running with the EGR working.. But question is.. What to do.. I thought bout the EGR Pipe delete deal but damn $220 is steep for that.. I am considering 6L PWR idea nad having a machine shop remove the baffle and weld a plate over it.. Question is, should I?
Does it happen when the truck is stock? or just with the tune?
Hmm.. You know I never tested that... I never saw any puking the times I had it stock.. So I would say since I put the SCT in... But perhaps I should program back to stock and try?
How do you know how high is high enough to blow the gaskets? I think you have posted in the past about blowing the doors off another truck. Correct me if my memory is wrong!
Ok ok... So yeah she's boosting hard enough... Sheesh ya'll are tough..
I'm just not sure the headgaskets have gone.. I don't run her hard anymore.. She surely won't be blowing doors off after this lift goes in.. Shes not smoking, I smell no coolant.. It just pukes sometimes.. It only happens when im under heavy boost (28-30lbs) and I let go of the pedal.. I know it's boil back from the EGR.. My question is, how do I fix it?! Besides removing that EGR pipe and doing the delete..
how do you know its boil back? i understand what your saying about you can hear it boiling, but the egr will not cause this. and im sorry but i dont understand what you are upset about. if you dont run her hard, then how do you see 30psi, and why do you need a tuner? i know matts tunes, and i have seen what he can do. you gonna play, espeacially with him as a tag partner, you WILL need studs. maybe even more..
Not trying to scare you Storm: But the 6.0 has been known to blow head gaskets with out programming. So for some even the stock 25-28 psi is too much. It also sounds to me like it may be an EGR boil issue but I'm not a tech... I would say that if your going to run a tuner you should replace the studs and gaskets just to be sure and then you would have one less thing to worry about.....Good luck and lets keep our fingers crossed......

Ok.. Lemme back up here...
Head gaskets were replaced at 24k miles, I have 31k on it now..
The boil back, from what I was informed, was something about coolant being used to cool down the Exhaust. When the truck pukes coolant out of the cap it's because the coolant is boiled due to the Temps being to high for the coolant..
As for the tunes, I'm running the Factory Performance tune from the SCT Livewire.. As of right now we are not able to custom tune.. Least dfuser and I tried and it wasn't working. I have seen as high as 35lbs of boost on WOT, and she'll easily hit 30 lbs if I get on it.. I don't spend every day pegging 30lbs.. I normally drive like an old fart.. 2k shifting and smooth acceleration..
As for the boiling.. What I hear is this. If I gun it and hit boost at 30 lbs and let off the pedal.. I hear what I thought was turbo fart.. That baffling sound.. But after I do that I pop the hood and bam, I see white chaulk.. I clean it off, do it again, and same thing happens.. It's back.. So I related this "baffling" sound I hear to be boiling coolant..
I am aware of the Headbolts, it is a mod on my list by far.. But this may be my misunderstanding.. I was just told if I had the white chalky residue on my cap that it was the coolant boiling..
So help me out here since it appears I am way off in left field by myself.
As of right now I have no loss of power, no smoke, no smells.. She runs like a champ.. My coolant is still at the low mark like I was told it needed to be..
I just talked to Rick my service manager.. Also an owner of a decked out 6L... He told me to detune it down.. Don't let it peg 30.. He'll cover me but if I change the headbolts he can't run warranty on it.. I understand because now I'm moving into major engine mods.. Thats not something I'll consider.. So I believe for now I will bring the tuner down to Street level instead of Performance.. Or as he said, readjust my throttling and don't let it boost 30lbs.. Reason I got gauges.. He said that 30lbs is just too much and right there it'll start blowing head gaskets..
The tuner is great.. I loved it.. But now my fear has caught up.. Its now a question of do I want a warranty or do I want to pay for breaking stuff with my own pocket... So i'm electing to detune it down some.. I at least will use the SCT to make up for the 4.5" Lift and 35's that I'm putting on Wednesday..

What else can be done to kill this boiling crap..
Put an egg between your right foot and the go pedal ...............
Not an easter egg either.......
Ok.. I just got off phone with Rick.. This guy is awesome.. Here's what he told me..
The 30lbs of boost is a little too close to the comfort zone when I dont have head studs replaced and the engine strengthened.. But in order to do that he cant cover the warranty.. So what he told me to do is pull the tuner out when I drop the truck off.. He'll have Leroy check it out and he'll fix anything under warranty..
Then after the lift is put on, I can put the tuner back in but either tune it down some or don't let it hit 30lbs.. He'll continue to cover me with my warranty.. But if I don't control the boost and I blow things out again, then he and I will have a very long talk.. LOL.. Guy acts like my father which trips me out but he's cool as hell.. So thats the game plan..
Can we say this is a good dealer and service department These are the guys I bought my truck from and who's fixed every problem I've had plus given me a free loaner car.. Their service writer has even stayed til 7.. 7:30 at night waiting on me because I can't get outta the office until 6 and the dealer is 60 miles away.. Thats customer service I tell you!
Yes have it checked, Storm, I've had some experience working on 6.0's with matts tunes here on long island and the first thing I do is to lower the coolant level 3/4" below the minemem fill level, The reason for this is the fact that the tune increases EGT's thus increases the coolant temp in the egr cooler, expanding the coolant and making it puke. Definetly Don't go to 30psi on the boost you're only asking for problems if you do. As for headstuds, our two local dealers here not only stock them but offer them to us unfortunate souls who happen to play hard and blow our gaskets.
Good luck
