so how do you prevent this boil back?? i don't want to detune my truck and i don't want coolant all over my engine compartment....is that too much to ask? would a different mix of the coolant help, meaning 75/25 coolant to water boil less easily?
i may be off my rocker today, but as i know it i have never experienced boil back, or whatever yall are discussing. the egr cooler will not cause puking. now exhaust temps will increase with tuning which will make the truck run hotter, making the coolant expand more. the puking is compression in the cooling system from tuning or driving very hard due to the increase in cylider pressures. naturally the gasket will let a little seep by, but sooner or later it just keep getting worse.
now storm, first off you are lucky that your dealer will not turn away from your tuner. second, i had a 04 engine that had a dip in the center where a .002 inch feeler gauge would pass under freely. we did the heads and gaskets on it and 8k miles later he was back puking again and thats when i found the dip. BUT his was puking with no tuner. i would sit down with your guys, and find out how much it would cost to do studs if you are gonna keep doing this to your truck. your engine will have to come out for studs, but for bolts, it can be done in the truck. good luck.
Let me see if I understand this! Your dealer is going to bale you out under warranty for something that you should be paying for, not Ford, and then you are going to re-install the tuner? I guess I was born in the wrong generation where we took responsibilty for our actions.
They're the ones who recommended the tuners.. Their choice is Bully Dog.. They will warranty you no questions asked if you have a Bully Dog.. But I elected SCT so I had a different setup done..
If I blow the engine then yeah, I'm paying for it.. No questions asked..
My service manager did... They install Bully Dog's on the SD Powerstrokes.. He has a Bully Dog on his 6.0L 05 CC SW PSD... I just wasn't impressed with Bully Dog's equipment over SCT so I went with SCT and I asked him what he would do.. He said he would cover me anyways.. Considering I've brought a lot of business to him..
So to answer your question.. If you purchase a truck from them and get a Bully Dog Tuner installed by them.. They will warranty your truck if anything happens..
im gonna have to go with bowtiehatr on this one...if ur coolant is at the "min" level and u still have a puking issue then...your geting cyl pressure into the coolant system...pressure check it.
you can custom tune a livewire. and running a custom tune with the egr turned off may end the problem.
dfuser and I tried.. When we programmed it my truck wouldn't start... He has the latest Advantage whatever its called software.. He flashed it from his computer to my device..

Stillcan be done we have done it numrous times. We are just having screen issues with the livewire not one has lasted more then a month.

One thing that will help is to remove all the water from your cooling system. Run "Evans" Waterless coolant. It is expensive but was designed for high heat and racing situations.
Ok.. Lemme back up here...
Head gaskets were replaced at 24k miles, I have 31k on it now..
As for the tunes, I'm running the Factory Performance tune from the SCT Livewire.. As of right now we are not able to custom tune.. Least dfuser and I tried and it wasn't working. I have seen as high as 35lbs of boost on WOT, and she'll easily hit 30 lbs if I get on it.. I don't spend every day pegging 30lbs.. I normally drive like an old fart.. 2k shifting and smooth acceleration..
35lbs of boost can send head gaskets south in a hurry

I have not installed it in my 06 yet (lack of time), but it is on my short list. I tow alot and like the benefits of waterless coolant. The coolant can be run pressurized or pressureless your choice. No you don't change your thermostat or anything in the cooling system. Just drain all the water and antifreeze out of the motor and cooling system and install the Evans NPG+. Matt with LIPD runs it in his truck and told me it is a great improvement. I really like the benefits of eleminating corrosion in the cooling system and no chance of cavitation.
