Are you noticing the troubles at about the same time? I'm a swingshifter, so I'm on here at all hours of the night. I've noticed trouble lately around 3 AM(ish), but not on any other site.
The site takes the forums down anywhere from 15-40 minutes each night to backup the database.
"Cannot find server at <A href="https://www.ford-trucks.com" [/QUOTE">www.ford-trucks.com"
That excludes it from being a DNS problem. For the stuff you said you used, it sounds like you're running Windows XP. Was it updated recently? Maybe a service pack killed it? Shut off the spyware tools especially spybot, maybe it's immunizing against it for some reason. Possibly do you have wireless and wired access? If so, just use one and disable the other. I'm probably thinking way too hard on this, it's probably something simple.
Type "tracert ford-trucks.com" at the command prompt and hit enter.
On the top/left of the command prompt window click the small c:\ icon then edit.
Then select mark. Highlight the tracert output with your mouse. Then select copy.
Paste that output into an email and send it to service @ ford-trucks.com
i'm still running IE6, I'm not brave enough to try 7 yet. I run FF 99%nofnthe time. And yes, it is XP. Uninstalled spybot completely, including traces. nothing yet
Ken, email sent. I just got "Unable to resolve target system name ford-trucks.com". I'm not sure if thats what you needed or not. We have just gone outside my area of knowledge with computers. I couldn't get anything to happen/change after the "c:\" part of your instructions. I think that's what you needed...
This looks like a DNS error. You can't browse FTE via its IP address because the server automatically does a redirect to www.ford-trucks.com.
Try the above tracert instructions but instead do this:
tracert 69.61.74.99
I'm willing to bet it'll trace all the way to 69.61.74.99. If so, contact your ISP and point them to this page on FTE (make sure you get a 2nd level tech who understands technical things like DNS, most 1st level techs don't and will simply tell you to restart your router). They'll need to take a look at their DNS server to make sure its resolving ford-trucks.com properly. I know that all sounds like Chinese, but their folks should know what we mean.
I resent the email to "service @...". However, the issue has since been reolved. I just got off the phone with Sudden Link. After going through all the basics (and some not so basics) we finally got to putting some specific DNS numbers in my computer, now it works just fine. Please don't ask me to explain it .
Hey Ken, The lady on the phone wanted me to tell you that she was a level 1 . To be fair, it was pretty obvious she had other people and a manual of some sort to read.
Not sure why this was a problem all of the sudden, oh well. Thanks to everyone for trying and helping. Much appreciated.
Just a matter of curiousity. What firewall/virus protection are you running? I've found, that on occaision, I'll get an update that will wipe out a lot of my internet settings and I'll have to go in and reinstall all my DNS and IP numbers.
The problem I had with not being able to access that site turned out to be cookies...or too many cookies. I thought I'd emptied all the caches etc, but when I did the last cookie delete, it cleared things up and I was instantly able to access the site I couldn't before. Weird.
thanks... was just wondering. I do Norton Internet Security... which is basically the same thing, different wrapper.
I'm having troubles now, sending work units for Folding@home . Have two units that won't send and I've OK'd every IP addy and everything for them. It's gotta be their server.
Anyway..before I get trounced for jihacking the thread, I'll shup!
