Have a 97 F250 HD 5.8 . Just wondering if anybody out there has put headers on a truck like mine and if so what brands and how do you like them. Iam trying to get more pulling power out of my truck. Put catback system and air intake on last year and still want more power.
gibson, jba, edelbrock, bbk and bassani all make great quality headers. you go cheap and it will bite ya so remember that. Long tubes would give more low end grunt but can be hard to fit properly. somtimes requireing the frame to be notched, tube to be dented or front drive line so close its scary.
what size tires are you running on that f250 and is it 2wd or 4wd?
summit brand shorties are either flowtech or pacesetter. They are the blemished headers from those manufacturers sold under summits label. I bought a pair of these and they were flowtechs. the quality was **** pour, even with good gaskets they still leaked, the header tubes were not welded to the flange correctly and were all at different angles like this / \. now some have had good luck with these but they are almost $200 bucks and spending another $75 would get you a better quality brand header. just my .02
I was looking at the Ford Performance Racing headers, running $310 or so. Was told by my old school exhaust guy that I want 14 gauge or so, 3/8" flange if I could get them.
Seems like JBA and the $500 plus stuff is the only ones around.
180.00 beats 500.00 all day long and the cheepies are way way better then the stock loggers.....it's your money 320.00 could buy a cam, chain, msd ing, etc.
those 500.00 headers in a truck won't work any better then the cheepies......I had a set and they were just fine...no leaks and they hooked right up to the y pipe....still on the road 5 years now.
my 3 cents sorry...........
here are the ones I bought...I'll be putting them on my 351W thats going into my 84...
I run the Summit shorties on my 01 F-150 and they're decent headers for the price. There are better quality headers that cost more, but if you notice, most of these pieces are identical in their design.
One thing I did with the Summit pieces, and I recommend this to anyone else, is strip off the black coating and shoot them with some type of high heat header paint. The instructions even say that the coating is not a high temp coating.
Chrome will lose its luster on just about any exhaust component, to me it's not worth the extra $$. Now the ceramic units will last longer and hold their appearance better. If you notice the design on that particular unit, it looks very much like the Ford Racing headers and a few other (non-equal length) models.
