i just put heddman headers on my f-250 single cab, i had new pipe welded to glasspacks and dumped it off. the headers are leaking at the top of four of the valves. the truck sounds like crap and feels like i lost so much power. is b/c of the leaking headers? i am going to buy copper crush fit gaskets and redo it. also the truck backfires like crazy! is it running rich or just no backpressure? want to put flows back on. any ideas?
Couple of things...whenever you have a header leak, especially up my the head, and you "let off the gas" you'll get backfiring, as you start scavenging in the cold air.
Also, be aware you might/should have to richen up your carb with the freer flowing exaust, since it'll be sucking/scavenging more air from the intake...so generally 2 jets up/bigger are needed to start with...depending on what type of carb you have, you maty also need larger secondary jets, or metering rod adjustmenst/replacement.
