about fuel filter

i've been getting 12 mpg and not sure why. alot of you say check fuel filter (and i'll change it once it gets in) but can you take the filter out and see if its good or not and put it back in or once out you should put a new one in?

Never run without a fuel filter in place.

The (very expensive) injectors have very tiny passages in them that might get clogged very easily with unfiltered fuel.

Diesel fuel from the pump sometimes isn't the cleanest thing around, and weird things can be found floating around in the fuel tank. ;-))

I wouldn't. Just buy a new filter. Get bad mileage until them.
