I have a 1986 Bronco XLT was wondering would it be alright to remove the converter and run it without ?
I have been told that if it is removed it will not run properly is this true?
I have a 1990 Bronco and I just emptied the cat. I left the housing because it is a smog thing.
Although there are plenty of "hi-flo" after market Cats that will improve your trucks preformance.
No you won't ruin the engine to run w/o the converter but you may never pass an emission test but then again the older trucks are not tested in many areas
Just empty the converter out by driving a steel rod through it. It will smash up the catalast that is honycombed inside. If it is not clogged then no harm no foul just leave it be.
If you are just looking for more performance then depending on the engine there are many modifications that can be made. Exhaust, intake, cam, there is a long list.
