I just got a cobra 29 and i dont have a good spot to mount it on the floor. I have a 99 ranger ext and i dontwant it between the front of the seats and the center console because i want to be able to slide my seat forward. any ideas???? thanks, any suggestions appreciated
If you need to adjust it while driving (ie anything more than the volume) this won't work, but I put mine under the driver's seat since there were grommets under the floor to run the antennae cable through. Stealthy, not easy for people to see outside the vehicle, and gives a convenient place to have the mic, in my opinion anyways.
Here's where I mounted mine. I screwed it too high on the ashtray, so every once in a while when I hit a bump, it falls down and gets in the way of the gearshift. Bit of a nuisance, but I haven't bothered to fix it yet, so I guess it doesn't bother me that much.
Not sure if a '99 has the same design, of if that was after they added the airbag cutout switch; this location may not work in your truck, a friend has a 2000 that's designed differently on that part of the dash and this location wouldn't be an option in his truck.
It's a lousy place for it, be happy you don't have to learn that for yourself.
If the truck was new, and the CB was good, I'd consider pulling the headliner down and mounting it up overhead. That's where I really want it, but I've got this one set up with a cigarette lighter plug for power and a mag-mount antenna so I can switch it to any vehicle I want (and given the age of my truck, other vehicles can be very good choices for long trips...)
This has been ask before and the conclusion was, there is no good place to mount a cb in a ranger. Ideas offered were, overhead console, side of tranny tunnel and under the seat. JC whitney use to sell a plastic headliner that had built in speakers and a place to mount a stereo or cb, they still might, I just haven't see a catolog in awhile. It was black molded plastic and truck specific, it was a pretty cool setup and made the instalation look profesenal. Just a thought but not much help I'm sure, "sorry".
I've seen radio holders that mount the CB almost verticle on the tranny hump. The holders are for mounting police radios & aren't cheep!!!!
Seems to me someone posted a link on this forum about a year or so ago, maybe someone will remember the link, or perhaps a forum search would turn it up..
alright, so does anyone know who sells a mount for cb's that goes in the headliner. I looked on jc whitney but didnt see anything. And ebay doesnt have something... thats a first.
I just checked jc whitney myself and all I could find was the plastic headliners, but couldn't find the ones with built in speakers that had a place for a stereo or cb, must not make them anylonger. I haven 't tried a general search on the web. They also use to make a shelf that bolted to the sun visor locations, then the sun visors bolted to the self, that would also work as you could put the cb on the self. I'll keep my eye's open to see if I can find something to help.
ya i have the airbag switch in my way. I was going to do it like that originally but it wouldn't work. sorry shoula mentioned that earlier
I had the same problem in my 2002. I think the 99 and 02 are similar. I notched the airbag switch plastic housing.
The switch still works fine. I use it whenever one of my grand children rides with me.
The mike is held in place on the dash with velcro. Mines an automatic, so I don't have a problem with the shifter.
See what you think.
