Hi guys, we just purchased an 88 Ford school bus - B600 with the 370 engine. After googling and hitting the search on this forum I'm coming up blank for specs on this engine.
Anybody have suggestions for shop manual? Just curious about the engine - it runs fine. No torque Another gutless wonder torque-wise that reminds me of the 302. Must have a super short stroke in what I believe is a 460 block.
Thanks darrin1999! I was having trouble imagining a 3" stroke......
So, next question - is this a true 429/460 block that can be punched out to 4.360? That's a lot of meat on the sidewalls if it is. Or are these a special small bore casting just for the 370?
Some of the things I'm finding out about the 370 truck engine verses 460 is the: stub shaft on the crank is heaver to accommodate heaver damper pulley, the timing chain cover is cast iron and beefier to accommodate front motor mount, piston ring groves are further apart to help prevent braking a ring, exhaust manifolds exhaust in middle vice rear of manifold, intake is 2 barrel vice 4 barrel. I'm not sure yet if the heads are the same or not.
hello there, just noticed your post...I have 1979 ford bluebird B600 with a 370 2v....I have converted the bus as a motorhome, and have been living in it for some years. It has been parked on my daughters property for about 5 years now. I have been running the engine from time to time. I had it converted to NG with dual gas. Since there are no ng depots here, in the kootenays, B.C. I have been running it on gas. Recently, I have had to move it off of the property. got a new battry, changed the coil, fired it up, ran it for a bit. Could not get enought power to get it up the hill, so had it towed to next location. There, I changed the plgs, which were pretty carbed up...then I dumped the oil, which had lots of gas in it. So now, Im not sure what to do. I have had several knowitalls, say that the engine is done for, but I refuse to believe this. I think I may haveleft the carb open, when I last ran it, and this may be the reason for the gas... not sure... I dont want to give up on this rig....can I put a degergent flush in the now empty oil pan. Also need some advise on the brakes, the cyl was empty and I think it has air in the system....any help would be appreciated...
