I put my hat ... or other shade producing object ( McDonalds recipt works pretty good ) over the little sensor during that half hour time frame if it starts doing that or if it'a a muggy day and I just want my lights on ... yea I know I could just do the 'ole maunal on thing but I'm witht he other guy in "if'n I paid fer it I'ma gonna use it" LOL
There should be a 20 second delay between off and on each way. So it isnt like you are flashing the oncoming cars. 20 seconds delay from the time you leave sunlight to go on and 20 seconds delay from the time you enter sunlight to go off.
In the older F150 and other older vehicles the autolamps system was nothing but a self contained photocell and variable resistor to relay setup inline with the headlamps circuit. It was an adjustable module mounted under the dash cowling. Now today we have it all integrated into the VSM amoung other options and it only has that little light sensor on the dash wired through the harness to the VSM behind the back seat.
I had to replace the VSM on one the just yesterday for no autolamp operation. The vehicle was out of warranty and the customer paid about 350.00 installed and programmed with diag.
Yep it isnt the good old days where I could have just replaced the little module for under 100.00.
I have to agree with what Doogie S. said. That it's not a problem with the light sensor but rather the delay. But is that adjustable or programable I don't know. I turn mine to automatic when I park at the bowling alley. That way when I come out later, I don't have to worry about not turning them on when the county mounty is parked across the street. Hee Hee.
