Are moulded plastic y-pipes commercially available?? I assume so, but I can't seem to find any. I am looking for a plastic y-pipe with dual 2 inch inlets with a single 3 inch outlet, 2.5 - 3 inch center to center and roughly 5 inches end to end. I came accross a couple places that are set up to make this stuff, but they also charge a fortune. Some one out there has to mass produce this kind of thing.
You can purchase schedule 40 and schedule 80 PVC wye fittings but all three connections are always the same size. I guess you could use a 3 inch wye fitting and then make up a couple of reducer bushings to narrow the two inlets to 2 inch. Is this a pressure or a gravity flow application?
eco, sounds like you're looking for a mass air 2-1 air wye.....wish I could help but my 93 parts truck is speed density.......sorry bud......on a sounder note...you could always have one made from aluminum...might be an arm n a leg like you said before.....if i custom alter my intake....(ie. the ribbed interior of the 3 inch tube) then I'll message you n hook you up....did you try LMC?
Application: Air intake plumbing from throttle body to mass air flow sensor housing.
Aluminum or stainless would work. I have a stainless one but anytime you make a Y in the dimensions given out of a metal you get dual 2 to single 2 to single 2 1/2 that is stretched to 3 or something along those lines...unless you can find a stamped one and not many places are set up to do that and the ones that are don't make them to my required dimensions. The ones that are made out of metal tube are not smooth at all and they have a 'bottleneck' in them (the single 2) + they are big and bulky (center to center is too long)...like the stainless one I have. I talked to the fab shop that made it for me and they said there aint much that can be done to avoid the things that I complained about. The plastic one that comes in the FMS kit works well, but it has this nipple sticking out the side of it that I am not going to use and if I could come up with one that does not have that nipple then great! If not then I will use what I have and block off the nipple or possibly fab up a fiberglass one like Torque1st said. The nipple isn't really much of a big deal, but in the E-Van it's a bit of a clearance issue and will require cutting and blocking off to make it work...hence my quest for an alternative.
we have great staff at our Home Depot here....I can go in, tell them what i'm trying to do and they run around and dump crap in my cart and i leave....hasn't failed me yet.
