Recently read an article posted in Ford Performance Trucks Magazine Spring 2007 issue, and there was a three page write up on the Edge Tunner. It answered a lot of my questions about the tunner, but made no mention if you could run it at level 3 all the time. Has anyone done this and did you have to change to a hotter burning plug due to the higher octane? Thanks
I am running on Level 3 right now and I have heard nothing about it being a problem. The only thing they say is not to tow on level 3. Level 2 is meant for towing. I believe the benefits of level 3 are more felt on the highway which I drive 95% highway so it works. When I am in Level 2 on the highway it seems to downshift a little more aggressively when just cruising.
Well you must run high octane fuel..... there is no getting around that (or you WILL damage your truck). I have heard nothing about having to change your plugs. All the Edge does, is advance the timing curve.... so its not changing any factory stuff, just when it all kicks in.
By not changing the plugs, couldn't that cause pinging,(or detonation in the cyclinder) when you changed to a higher octane? Doesn't the higher octane need a hotter spark to ignight it? I'm not a 100% sure of all this, thats why I'm asking so I won't blow my motor when I install the EDGE. I want performance. All the time performance. I don't tow, and don't plan on towing or even hauling any major loads. I only want speed. 0-60 & 1/4 mile speed.I want to smoke all my freinds and their bowties. Thanks
I run my truck on level 3 all the time! I even have the timing bumped up 1 degree for the 93 octane. I have had zero issues, aside from not being able to keep my foot out of the floor! No change in plugs, etc..... Just plug and play! No increase in MPG because of the foot issues!!!! My .02!
