People Leaving Forums

There has been a thread about people leaving the forum and I wanted to add my two cents worth. I did not want it to be taken as me speaking for anynoe else so I am adding this thread. I have been a contributor to the forum for some time and noticed about a year ago that the tone had changed for the worse. It seems that the administrator has started to limit discussions that differed from his own opinions. In the past technical discussion were a bit rowdy at times but there was little limits on what you opinion was, as long as it was not disrespectful of other members. As of late though there are opinions that are not welcome here. Now I understand that sponsors cringe went someone talks badly about their products and can understand limits on that sort of thing. However when talking generally whether some engine modifications work or not, all opinions should be allowed. Sadly that is no longer the case.

When people come here they are looking for some informed opinions about something. They have a question and someone has the answer and they feel that the “guys at FTE” are dependably supplying good info. If they can read that there are people who don’t think there is any evidence that something will add power/fuel economy to their vehicle they can decide for themselves. But if their question is only answered by glowing accounts about how well the modifications work then I believe they are being mislead for the sake of selling them worthless products. Granted that is only my opinion, but it is my opinion and I will not add to the creditability of FTE by answering technical questions so they can be later mislead.

I have not adding anything recently and will not be in the future.

The thing that has really been getting to me lately is that people post the same question over and over again. Take V8 conversions. Everytime I stop in here, there is a thread with someone asking "hey can I put a V8 in my truck thanks." I hate to be a search ****, but sometimes people just need to do a little digging on their own.

Anyway, I'm still here for now!

You think that’s bad, I belong to a KDX motorcycle forum. It’s for a 2 stroke bike that is about 10 years behind in development. But it has a large following because it’s a good dirtbike. Now how many question can there be, it’s a 2 stroke and it’s been around with no change for a very long time. Some people get tired of the same old questions, but even when you search it difficult to fine exactly what you want to know. So the just ask the question. Don't answer if you don't want to, but someone will and they get their answer. I'm not trying to be confrontational it’s just the way it is.

i haven't been here that long, but i find it to be a quite friendly and informative place.

for example, there seem to be hardly any people getting banned here.. as opposed to some other forums i belong to...

guys, u dont need to keep coming back to the forums and telling us your not going to post. this is an internet forum. it will survive without these comments. i think the reason you are having problems is because you come online and deliberatly break the rules. we are not hard to get along with and we HAVE relaxed our rules a ton. im even going to let this topic run and let people realize how childish it actually is.

Matt has said it fairly well, I am just adding into this so you guys know we are in agreement and to keep an eye on things in here.
The rules have not gotten any stricter of late, and in fact many have been relaxed, admin hasn't done anything that I know of in this forum to restrict discussion and if I have done something you don't like try the PM system I will almost always respond.

In the past year or so we (as in FTE administration) have actively tried to make the site "more open".
We have opened up our language filters, allowed discussions on topics that previously have been unallowed, links to many competing sites etc. etc.

We operate on feedback - so if you have a problem, let us know!!! We can't rectify problems if we don't know it exists.
You can contact myself, or one of the other moderators/administrators - post in the User Feedback forum etc.
I will even pay the international call charges to discuss if you would prefer to discuss things over the phone.
In the past technical discussion were a bit rowdy at times but there was little limits on what you opinion was, as long as it was not disrespectful of other members. As of late though there are opinions that are not welcome here.
I for one am genuinely unaware of such things - please enlighten me/us, we won't belittle you for it, and we will take it on board as constructive criticism...
If you come across a post (or other actions) that you find that is like what you mentioned above. Use the report post function.
If you don't want to do that - PM or e-mail us.

Now I understand that sponsors cringe went someone talks badly about their products and can understand limits on that sort of thing. However when talking generally whether some engine modifications work or not, all opinions should be allowed. Sadly that is no longer the case.
While sponsers support this site - and allow it to exist, its thier own products and service that determine how good the company is. FTE can just be used as a vehicle for contecting a vendor wanting to sell something, with a user that may want to buy something.
We are pretty strict with what we allow sponsers to do (in terms of what and where they post) - so we don't become a "trading post"
We don't allow slander, group actions etc. and thats purely for legal reasons - if we did allow them... we (as a site) most likely would not be here.
When people come here they are looking for some informed opinions about something. They have a question and someone has the answer and they feel that the “guys at FTE” are dependably supplying good info. If they can read that there are people who don’t think there is any evidence that something will add power/fuel economy to their vehicle they can decide for themselves. If you don't think a modification is worth the $$$ - say so.
Bearing in mind some people just like having modifications, purely for the sake of it... so construct a reasonable response to posts like what you mention outlining the benefits and detractors - then its purely up to the user to choose.
I have not adding anything recently and will not be in the future.
People choose to stay, people choose to leave - you are quite welcome to do what you want, and best wishes to you with whatever you choose

Big F350.You must not go to the oil fourm. It should be named "If you don't use what I use then I will bash you and flame you till you leave Forum."Now I'm not saying not to be brand loyal but to bash and flame others because they choose to use another brand is WRONG!It is not as bad here as there but it happens here too.
Lord help you if you disagree with someone that has the blue supporter by the user name and you don't,that will bring the WRATH of some Moderator on you FAST.When FTE becomes a Pay to post site, I can be the first one they can stop from posting.I will go to other Ford sites and get the information I need.Sure they are not as big as FTE but you can find out what you need.FTE use to be a Great site but since you started the pay to post some people think you don't belong here because you choose not to pay.I was here a lot longer then most of the pay to post members an I have seen the site go down hill every since then.JMO

Quite incorrect... supporters disagree with Mods just as often as anyone else, we all have our own opinions. I haven't once, in my 6000+ posts, had a post removed for "disagreeing" with a mod or anything of the sort.

Zach, very well said, I couldn't have put it any better.

We now have a means for you or any other user to rate the mod, so far almost all the feedback has been positive so I feel that means for the most part we are doing a good job. If you feel differently then please tell us.

you or anyone else is always welcome to PM me with a complaint and I will see what I can do to help you get it resolved, it is a big site and takes a lot of work to keep it running so if you have a suggestion it will always be welcomed and it doesn't matter if your a supporter or moderator or sponsor. that doesn't mean it will necessarily be implemented but gives us an idea.

Well....I have, in my fewer-than-20-posts at this site.

It seems if you use the words lemon or buy-back in regard to a Ford product, it will get deleted. It was explained to me that using those words could bring on legal problems, which is utterly false.

Concerning the comment about there always seems to be someone asking "can I put a V8 in my Ranger", try doing a search in this forum for 5.0, 302, 351, 4.6, or even V8, all you get is "sorry no matches". So, of course the people wanting information post a new question. Going through dozens (hundreds?) of pages to find the info is a big waste of time.

Can this search problem be fixed?

That's the only problem I've seen in the site. Some of the members have problems, but that's not something the admin can fix.
